Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the body of Jenna Jacobsen of East Islip was discovered during a search of a scrub area in Lantana, in Palm Beach County in southeastern Florida, on Thursday, May 30.

Chris Jacobsen posted his daughter missing on May 18 after she had been missing for 23 days.

Jenna Jacobsen, a 2016 East Islip High School graduate, who had traveled to Florida to enter a substance abuse treatment facility, was last seen alive on April 25 in Lake Worth Beach.

In a missing poster, police did not disclose details of the sighting, but said she was considered “possibly endangered.”

Her father traveled to Florida on May 22 to begin searching for Jenna spending his time handing out flyers and searching areas of any reported sighting.

On Sunday, June 2, the Sheriff's Office said on Facebook: "Detectives received positive identification on the bones discovered last week. Sadly, the remains discovered were of Jenna Jacobsen."

The medical examiner office said Jenna died of undetermined means, however, detectives are investigating her death as a homicide, the Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives are now working to unravel what happened to the young woman once she arrived in Florida.

News of Jenna's death has prompted an outpouring of sympathy on her father's Facebook page.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-8477.
